Buy Nothing Day 2006: Online Promotional Campaign for NOTHING™ Launched

Newark, Delaware -- Three sisters who have been previously arrested on Black Friday, aka Buy Nothing Day, for handing out free samples of NOTHING™ in a Delaware Mall are taking their promotional campaign to cyberspace this year.

“NOTHING™ is a revolutionary product -- zero waste, climate-friendly, sweatshop labor free, and affordable to all!” says NOTHING™ salesperson Joy Full, “It’s 100% good for the earth, your and others’ well-being, and your wallet!”

Unfortunately, while the product NOTHING™ is completely safe, its promotion has been deemed a threat to holiday security by private guards and public police involved with “Operation Cooperation,” a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.“As our sales team has found out firsthand, we live in a society that is increasingly ‘safe for shopping’, but ‘unsafe for free speech’,” says NOTHING™ salesperson Frida Laff, “If Jesus himself were to go to a mall and question the nature in which his birthday is being celebrated -- rampant consumerism and the plundering of the planet -- it’s likely he would find himself in handcuffs too.”

Since Delaware has not yet, in contrast to next door neighbor New Jersey, deemed malls “Town Centers” where free speech rights apply, the NOTHING™ sales team has chosen to take their promotional campaign international to a decidedly more democratic space, the internet:

• Video Ad: Buy NOTHING™!
• Website: NOTHING™ - What You’ve Been Looking For!
• Blog: Much Ado About NOTHING™

Other helpful resources for citizens seeking to give a meaningful and lasting gift to loved ones, the planet, and future generations this holiday season: “Do I Really Want to Buy SOMETHING™?” Wallet Buddy; Gift of Time Certificate

“Scientists say we have a brief window of time just 10 years to prevent full scale global warming. It’s high time we question the sustainability of our culture of consumerism,” says NOTHING™ salesperson Hope N. Peas, “Instead of participating in the annual commercial frenzy at the mall, we suggest staying home and buying NOTHING™”

####

The White sisters (aka “Frida Laff”, “Joy Full”, and “Hope N. Peas”), often with 'Santa Claus' in tow, have celebrated Buy Nothing Day at the Christiana Mall in New Castle County, Delaware since 1998. In 2004 and 2005, they were arrested at the mall for promoting NOTHING™ and, in 2005, banned from the premises for three years. Three of the seven arrested last year are challenging their charges of criminal trespassing (which the state has refused to drop) in Wilmington, Delaware’s Court of Common Pleas.
Just 10 Years or Less to Stop Full-Scale Global Warming

NOAA
Expert scientists tell us we have a brief window of time -- just 10 years or less -- to stop full-scale global warming and avert planetary catastrophe. Unless we act now to dramatically reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases, we will face many dire consequences, such as:

• more highly destructive storms like Hurricane Katrina
• major droughts and wildfires
• melting ice sheets, causing rising sea levels that would put most of Manhattan & many other places under water
• the greatest mass extinction since 65 million years ago
• the spread of tropical diseases to new regions
• collapse of fisheries worldwide
• major food shortages

The good news: The production, manufacture, transport, and disposal of NOTHING™ creates no global warming gases whatsoever! Give a climate-friendly gift to future generations by buying NOTHING™!

NOTHING™: A Zero-Waste Product!

Between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, 25% more garbage is produced in the United States than during the rest of the year. That's five million extra tons of trash, making a total of 25 million tons of garbage produced during the holiday season. (Source: Use Less Stuff Report)

Where does all this trash go? To overflowing landfills. Or to be burned in incinerators that create toxic chemicals such as dioxins, which can often cause cancer and other ill health effects in people living nearby.

Yet another reason to buy NOTHING™: It's zero-waste!
